We took 9 alpacas to Lexington for the 2010 Virginia Classic. The animals were all soaking wet from all the rain but were fairly presentable after being in front of the fans overnight. Six alpacas earned ribbons. We were most proud of Jedda who took home a blue in the black yearling halter class and then a third in the Walking Fiber Futurity competition. Jedda had a slow start in life, weighing only 8 pounds at birth compared to the average of 15-20lbs. She has always been small but she is covered with fabulously fine and dense true black fleece. This is her third show but the first time with a judge who appreciated her.
Another exceptional moment for us was when our most recent jr. herdsire purchase (co-owned with Clearview Alpaca Farm and Bay Shore Alpacas), the amazing fawn juvenile, Revolution’s Grayson, took the reserve championship in a HUGE class of fawn males. Bravo to Grayson who has taken 3 banners in only 3 showings.
Thunder made his show debut in the gray juvenile halter class. He came home with a 4th out of 7. He was humming the whole time but behaved well. The judge admired his sturdy square carriage and predicted fabulous fleece after shearing next month. Sinbad took a fourth in brown. Claire (4th), Diva (6th in very large class) and Lucas (3rd) also earned ribbons in competitive light and fawn classes.
